Bill splitter

Share a bill fairly, with an optional tip.

● Processed in your browser

What is this tool?

Share a bill and a percentage tip between a chosen number of people. This page is useful for equal splits at meals or other shared purchases. It does not track who ordered individual items or process payments.

How to use it

  1. Read the input labels and limits below, then choose the operation that matches your task.
  2. Enter the bill, tip percentage and number of people.
  3. Choose the rounding precision appropriate for the currency you are using.
  4. Calculate and use the displayed distribution of individual shares.
  5. Check the result against the worked example or original file before copying, downloading or using it elsewhere.

Worked example

When a total cannot divide evenly into the chosen currency unit, some people may pay one small unit more. The displayed distribution keeps the shares consistent with the rounded total instead of silently losing the remainder.

Questions & limits

How it works

Enter the bill total, tip percentage, and number of people. The calculation adds the tip before splitting equally. All amounts use the same currency you entered. For whole currency units, choose zero decimal places.

A practical example

A bill of 1,000 with a 10% tip split among 3 people totals 1,100. At two decimal places, two people pay 366.67 and one pays 366.66.

Know the limits

The bill is split equally rather than by item. No payment is collected. Rounding uses the selected decimal precision; uneven last units are distributed so shares add up to the displayed total.

Documentation updated October 4, 2026.

Is the tip shared between everyone?

Yes. The tip is calculated from the entered bill and the total is divided equally by the number of people. The result distributes rounding differences between people so the shown shares add up to the total.

Can I split different items between people?

This tool assumes an equal split. For unequal shares, agree the item totals separately and include any shared charges explicitly before requesting payment.

Checking your result

Read the labels before entering a value, especially when switching an operation or unit. Start with a simple example whose answer you already know if you are unsure which mode to use. After changing an input, check that you are reading the new result rather than a value copied earlier. Invalid or incomplete inputs need correcting before the calculation can finish. For a form or deadline with specific rules, follow the destination’s requirements and use this page as a convenient calculation aid.

Features & limits

Enter the bill, tip percentage and a positive whole number of people. The selected decimal precision controls rounding. When equal rounded shares cannot match the total, some people pay one smallest currency unit more so the collected sum matches exactly.

This tool runs in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. It processes the values or files you enter on your device. Loading the site still makes hosting requests. The separate contact form sends messages to the administrator; it is not part of tool processing. Keep an original copy and inspect any exported result before relying on it.
