Compress image online

Shrink a photo and compare its size before saving.

Up to 20 MB / 25 megapixels. No upload.

What is this tool?

Reduce a photo’s storage size by changing its encoding quality and, if necessary, dimensions. Compression is useful before emailing photos or publishing them online. A smaller file can transfer faster, but excessive compression may visibly soften edges.

How to use it

  1. Read the input labels and limits below, then choose the operation that matches your task.
  2. Choose a supported image and select WebP or JPEG output.
  3. Set the quality and maximum width, keeping the original as your master.
  4. Compress, compare the preview and byte size, then download if suitable.
  5. Check the result against the worked example or original file before copying, downloading or using it elsewhere.

Worked example

A large camera photo displayed in a small web card rarely needs its full camera resolution. Try a lower width first, then lower quality gradually. Inspect fine text, faces and detailed edges before accepting the smaller copy.

Questions & limits

Keeps the aspect ratio and never upscales. JPEG flattens transparency onto white. Animated images become a still image; metadata may be removed. File sizes depend on content. Check the displayed size and preview before downloading.

Which image format should I choose?

WebP is useful for websites. JPEG is widely supported for photos and replaces transparent areas with white. Compare the preview and output size before keeping the new file.

Does smaller always mean better?

No. A heavily compressed image may become unreadable. Use the smallest version that still looks suitable at its intended display size, including on a phone.

Before sharing the result

Keep the source file until you have opened the downloaded copy and checked every important page or image. Confirm that names, dates and small text are readable. A successful download only means a file was created; it does not prove that every visual or interactive feature survived the chosen operation. For an upload portal, check its actual file-type, page-count and size requirements. If processing fails on a large file, try a smaller source or close other memory-heavy tabs.

Features & limits

Accepts JPEG, PNG and WebP files up to 20 MB and 25 megapixels. Choose quality from 10–100 and a maximum width from 1–5,000 pixels. JPEG replaces transparency with white. Output is not guaranteed to be smaller, so compare the reported size.

This tool runs in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. It processes the values or files you enter on your device. Loading the site still makes hosting requests. The separate contact form sends messages to the administrator; it is not part of tool processing. Keep an original copy and inspect any exported result before relying on it.
